Timothy Leary

I watched the video "Timothy Leary's Last Trip" yesterday and it once again proved you always learn something new. I knew of his fame, but little of his final exploits before death.

Leary was the "Acid Guru" in the sixties and seventies and did as much to popularize drugs as to demonize them in the eyes of the government. Honestly, I think he scared the hell out of them with his pro drug mantras. Some say he should have just kept his mouth shut, I disagree.I definitely agree with him that we should be free to find out for ourselves about these substances without government intervention. My body, my mind, my choice. Period. I know Leary would agree.

The movie has a brief history of his life and work but focuses more on his friendship with Ken Kesey of Merry Prankster fame and his last days before his death. I smiled thbrough the entire film and it is strange, but even days before his death he was as lucid as you and I. The man was a walking testament that responsible drug use is not harmful for consenting adults wanting to explore the true final frontier...our minds. Watching him discuss the internet was amazing. The guy was truly a visionary.

Don't expect his movie to be technical documentary of his life and work, more of a fun journey of two rebels from the sixties who became friends over a common cause, to expose people to the benefits of psychedelic therapy whether recreational or scientific.

You can probably pick a copy up at Amazon used for a few bucks...check it out. It's a time trip back to visit an enlightened soul who's presense will be sorely missed on this earth.
