Timothy Leary

Erowid Timothy Leary Vault

Photo from Asahi Magazine

I watched the video "Timothy Leary's Last Trip" yesterday and it once again proved you always learn something new. I knew of his fame, but little of his final exploits before death.

Leary was the "Acid Guru" in the sixties and seventies and did as much to popularize drugs as to demonize them in the eyes of the government. Honestly, I think he scared the hell out of them with his pro drug mantras. Some say he should have just kept his mouth shut, I disagree.I definitely agree with him that we should be free to find out for ourselves about these substances without government intervention. My body, my mind, my choice. Period. I know Leary would agree.

The movie has a brief history of his life and work but focuses more on his friendship with Ken Kesey of Merry Prankster fame and his last days before his death. I smiled thbrough the entire film and it is strange, but even days before his death he was as lucid as you and I. The man was a walking testament that responsible drug use is not harmful for consenting adults wanting to explore the true final frontier...our minds. Watching him discuss the internet was amazing. The guy was truly a visionary.

Don't expect his movie to be technical documentary of his life and work, more of a fun journey of two rebels from the sixties who became friends over a common cause, to expose people to the benefits of psychedelic therapy whether recreational or scientific.

You can probably pick a copy up at Amazon used for a few bucks...check it out. It's a time trip back to visit an enlightened soul who's presense will be sorely missed on this earth.

We're All Mad Now......

Mad Cow Confirmed From Texas Herd

I heard on Air America yesterday that the 2nd cow confirmed to be positive for BSE was from Texas, and that the USDA had quarrantined the entire herd while they investigated, so I got up today and did a Google search for the story's source.

Nothing. Not a peep about it any where in any news, nor did any current story pop up about it.

Strange, since Air America usually has its sources & facts down pretty good.

The investigative reporter in me kicked in and I punched in the URL for the USDA (link above). What what do ya know.... right at the top of the page is the report - IN PDF FORM SO IT DOES NOT SHOW UP IN SEARCH ENGINES.

Here is the statement in full:

by USDA Chief Veterinarian John Clifford
Regarding the Epidemiological Investigation into the recently confirmed BSE case
June 29, 2005

"DNA test results have confirmed that we have identified the source herd of the animal determined last week to be positive for BSE. Based on information we have received from the owner, the cow was born and raised in a herd in Texas and was approximately 12 years old. It was sent to a 3D/4D pet food plant in Texas and was selected for sampling on arrival.

‰¥þThe source herd is now under a hold order as we identify animals of interest within the herd. Consistent with OIE guidelines, animals of interest would include any other animals that were born the same year as this animal, as well as any born the year before and the year after. If the age of the animal cannot be pinpointed, then we may expand our inquiry to include all animals in this herd before the feed ban went into place in 1997. We are also interested in any of this animal‰¥ús offspring that were born within the last 2 years.

‰¥þExperience worldwide has shown us that it is highly unusual to find BSE in more than one animal in a herd or in an affected animal‰¥ús offspring. Nevertheless, all animals of interest will be tested for BSE.

‰¥þWe are also working with the Food and Drug Administration in an effort to determine the feed history in this herd. Given the animal‰¥ús age, we believe it was most likely infected by consuming feed prior to the implementation of the ruminant-to-ruminant feed ban in 1997.

‰¥þI emphasize that this animal did not enter the human food chain. The plant at which this animal was sampled is a 3D/4D pet food plant that does not handle animals for human consumption and, in this case, did not use the animal in the production of pet food. The animal remains were incinerated.

‰¥þThe testing and traceback efforts may yield further information as to how this animal became infected. The safety of our food supply is not in question. I am very confident that our interlocking safeguards are effective, and this case is evidence of that. USDA bans nonambulatory cattle from the food supply. USDA bans animal parts that could carry BSE from the food supply. USDA bans slaughter techniques that could introduce BSE into the food supply. These safeguards ensure that American beef is among the safest in the world.‰¥ÿ

Well, THAT makes me feel all safe now....... NOT. I wonder how many cows not yet showing symptoms have made it through the slaughterhouses?

Go ahead, eat the beef.... after all, the American Cattleman's Association says it's safe.

We Got Yer Eminent Domain Right Here

In a BRILLIANT move by private developer, Freestar Media, LLC, Supreme Court Justice David Souter may be one of the first to have to deal with the recent bad ruling made by he & his peers to allow private industry to use Eminent Domain to seize land for corporate development.

For those of you who slept through Government class in high school, Eminent Domain is the power of the state to appropriate private property for use in interest of the public good without the owner's consent. In recent years, this practice has experienced much abuse to the extent that it was brought before the Supreme Court. The ruling by the Supreme Court to no longer observe the Fifth Amemndment of the United States Constitution which states that lands seized be for public use (ie., roads, schools, or other public construct), is a slap in the face to every hard-working, tax-paying land owner in America.

Here is the story of the proposed development of Souter's property in NH:

Press Release

For Release Monday, June 27 to New Hampshire media
For Release Tuesday, June 28 to all other media

Weare, New Hampshire (PRWEB) Could a hotel be built on the land owned by Supreme Court Justice David H. Souter? A new ruling by the Supreme Court which was supported by Justice Souter himself itself might allow it. A private developer is seeking to use this very law to build a hotel on Souter's land.

Justice Souter's vote in the "Kelo vs. City of New London" decision allows city governments to take land from one private owner and give it to another if the government will generate greater tax revenue or other economic benefits when the land is developed by the new owner.

On Monday June 27, Logan Darrow Clements, faxed a request to Chip Meany the code enforcement officer of the Towne of Weare, New Hampshire seeking to start the application process to build a hotel on 34 Cilley Hill Road. This is the present location of Mr. Souter's home.

Clements, CEO of Freestar Media, LLC, points out that the City of Weare will certainly gain greater tax revenue and economic benefits with a hotel on 34 Cilley Hill Road than allowing Mr. Souter to own the land.

The proposed development, called "The Lost Liberty Hotel" will feature the "Just Desserts Caf̩" and include a museum, open to the public, featuring a permanent exhibit on the loss of freedom in America. Instead of a Gideon's Bible each guest will receive a free copy of Ayn Rand's novel "Atlas Shrugged."

Clements indicated that the hotel must be built on this particular piece of land because it is a unique site being the home of someone largely responsible for destroying property rights for all Americans.

"This is not a prank" said Clements, "The Towne of Weare has five people on the Board of Selectmen. If three of them vote to use the power of eminent domain to take this land from Mr. Souter we can begin our hotel development."

Clements' plan is to raise investment capital from wealthy pro-liberty investors and draw up architectural plans. These plans would then be used to raise investment capital for the project. Clements hopes that regular customers of the hotel might include supporters of the Institute For Justice and participants in the Free State Project among others.

Carry on, Mr. Clements, and know that you have at least 2 people in GA who will be ready to make reservations at The Lost Liberty Hotel when it opens for business.

I hear New Hampshire is beautiful in the early summer.

Weather Underground Documentary DVD

Weather Underground--Main Page

I stumbled across this DVD about the WU the other day and picked it up to take a look. As a young kid in the late 60's and early 70's I heard a lot about these guys on the news but never really understood what they were about except anti-war protesters. They were much more that that.

I recommend this DVD to any activist. I didn't agree with their methods or ideology at times, but I did see a group of people who dearly loved their country and were willing to fight for it in their own way, misguided as it was. Seeing this DVD lets all of us who want change in this country know that we are not alone, and that many through the years have put themselves on the line for what they believe America should be. I would be lying if I didn't admit that I wish I saw more radical challenges to the powers that be in this country, but in today's "1984" environment I doubt it will ever happen.

The parallels between the then and now politically are chilling. SEE THIS MOVIE. It will make you stop and think long and hard about how our country operates.

One cool thing I noticed is that almost every one of the activists interviewed in the film are now teachers and highly intellectual people who still believe in being activists.

Amazingly, most are not in jail because the authorities that were pursuing them were being as big as thugs as they were....ah, but our government would never overstep it's bounds now would it?

Check the links above for more info.

New Blotter Art

Just wanted to post some new pics of Blotter art I just produced
All were debuted at Bonnaroo and we sold out of the first bunch immediately.

All are printed on 308 gm German Watercolor paper and perfed with 900 tabs (hits) except the studio print.

We are presently getting a new bunch perfed and will have them in the online gallery store soon. These are unlimited editions, signed with a studio seal on the back. We will eventually do some limited editions of blotter art, but we also want to have affordably priced unlimited editions available for sale.

We'll also be debuting several art prints in unlimited litho editions (similar to those found in head shops) soon due to overwhelming requests we've received for affordably priced eye candy.

Keep watching for the updates for Blotterati.com & the exhibit that will be a Burning Man this year!

It's Heritage, not Hate..... whatever

So I'm reading this story, and wondering..... does anyone else see the irony in the following statement:

National Socialist Movement leader Jeff Schoep railed against immigrants, calling them "putrid scum" that are "pouring over our borders, destroying our culture, and robbing us of our heritage."

Yeah. So, um, last time I checked, the only people who could be really pissed off about being robbbed of their heritage by immigrants would logically be indigenous Native Americans.

News flash, dude..... unless you are Native American, you're an immigrant. In fact, we "Americans" are almost ALL immigrants.

Silly neo-Nazis.

God Speed, Chet Helms

Article 35 - San Francisco Nights: The Psychedelic Music Trip

The Man who along with Bill Graham kicked the poster revolution into gear has left us. As the leader of Family Dog productions he was a San Fran legend. Chet passed away after suffering a stroke. The music and rock art world mourns their loss today with the knowledge that Chet's work will inspire all of us forever.

I feel a huge emptiness, but I'm so appreciative that I got to meet Chet at Bonnaroo in 2003 and hang with him a couple of days. Chet was there selling Mouse's work along with his own concert photography. Seeing him down front and center in the "pit" at the James Brown show made my heart soar. Here he was practicing a passion, one he had done for over 35 years, documenting the music he loved so much...and I got to watch like a wonderous child. It put my whole career in prespective seeing a man of his age still at Festivals getting his groove on, proving you're never to old to Rock and Roll and follow your dreams.

Chet was wonderful human being and openly talked at length with Judy and I about the 60's posters scene over a huge plate of pancakes in the wee hours of the morning in Centeroo. He just walked up to where we were eating and made himself at home.It was surreal and was dream come true for a poster geek like myself, to whom he was an iconinc GOD in my life and career. All I could think was "Here I am eating breakfast with Chet Helms and talking posters...how cool is this", like I said....surreal.

I'm sad today for our loss, but I know that Chet is among the spirits of good friends like Janis and Griffin whom he spoke so lovingly of in our conversations. I'm so happy that I got to shake his hand and say "Thanks" for what he did. He looked me straight in the eyes and acknowledged my praise and admiration in such a humble and honest way, I will never forget it.

Thank you so much Chet for the inspiration and guidence, you will be dearly missed. I know I personally will feel his spirit everytime I step up to my press.

God Speed My Friend.

CNN.com - High Court OKs personal property seizures - Jun 23, 2005

CNN.com - High court•À¸OKs personal property seizures - Jun 23, 2005

WASHINGTON (AP) -- -- The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that local governments may seize people's homes and businesses -- even against their will -- for private economic development.

What The Fuck!?!?! So, now the government can seize your property anytime they want to generate more tax revenues.

I'm so disgusted by this I can't even put it into words.

I do know that our Founding Fathers NEVER intended for the government to become the massive bully and oppressive entity is has become in the past 20 years.

The implications of this ruling means the government can pretty much do what it wants with ANY land within it's borders. We own nothing...

It's time for some serious thinking on how we want this country run.

Where's Thomas Jefferson when we need him?

Global weapons spending hits Cold War level - International News - MSNBC.com

Report: U.S. accounts for nearly half of $1 trillion expenditure

"STOCKHOLM, Sweden - For the first time since the Cold War, global military spending exceeded $1 trillion in 2004, nearly half of it by the United States, a prominent European think tank said Tuesday.

As military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and the war on terror continue, the world spent $1.035 trillion on defense costs during the year, corresponding to 2.6 percent of the planet's gross domestic product, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute said."

and yet I will not receive any Social Security benefits whyen I retire. SS is in trouble and you wonder why. With all the money we are wasting playing world police we could make this country a truly wonderful place to live, learn and retire.

The country's priorities are in the toilet.

Let Bubba wake and realize he's not getting any Social Security when he retires because he voted for that good ol' boy GW and GW's wars drained our economy. Maybe then these thickskulls will see what the rest of us has been screaming about. But, oh that's right...we are just latte-drinking intellectual liberals.

Hey bro, I'd rather have an intellectual running this country than a meglomaniac idiot.

Fuck it...I've had a bad week....

Wealth Porn

CBS News | Wealth Porn | June 7, 2005•À¸03:30:10:

"The New York Times has been running an impressive, book-length series of articles about class in America. Some of them have been riveting as well as 'important.' But I'd bet a Rolex that the most popular of the nine pieces published thus far was the front page story that ran Sunday, June 5, headlined, 'Old Nantucket Warily Meets the New.'

It's all about how the new "hyper-rich" have taken the island over from the old rich. It's a great and grotesque piece.

Accompanying it is a wonkish but equally impressive look at how these "hyper-rich" people, those earning about $1.6 million a year or more annually, are leaving even the regular rich in the dust. The amount of national treasure consumed by the top 0.1 percent of taxpayers has grown to levels not seen since the Roaring '20s.

Rise of the Religious Right in the Republican Party

Rise of the Religious Right in the Republican Party: "'This Republican Party of Lincoln has become a party of theocracy.' U.S. Representative Christopher Shays, R-CT, (New York Times, March 23, 2005)

Theocracy is derived from the two Greek words Qeo/j(Theos) meaning 'God' and kra/tein (cratein) meaning 'to rule.' Theocracy is the civil rule of God, or the belief in government by divine guidance.

The powerful Majority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, Tom DeLay (R-TX) embodies government by divine guidance:
He [God] is using me, all the time, everywhere, to stand up for a biblical worldview in everything that I do and everywhere I am. He is training me.

Tom DeLay represents an ultraconservative religious movement seeking to impose a narrow theological agenda on secular society. Chip Berlet and Margaret Quigley, senior analysts at Political Research Associates, have named this movement the theocratic right:

The predominantly Christian leadership envisions a religiously-based authoritarian society; therefore we prefer to describe this movement as the 'theocratic right.' "

The High Cost of Prohibition

AlterNet: DrugReporter: The High Cost of Prohibition: "This week, over 500 leading economists, led by conservative icon Dr. Milton Friedman, called for a national debate about whether prohibition of marijuana is worth the cost. The occasion was a new report by Harvard University economist Dr. Jeffrey Miron estimating - - probably conservatively -- that replacing prohibition with a system of common-sense regulation could mean $10 billion to $14 billion per year in reduced government spending and new revenues."

A Warning to all Heading to Bonnaroo: Drug Dogs

Bonnaroo fans to face crackdown on drugs - Sunday, 06/05/05

This past Spring the Supreme Court gave law officers the rights to use drug dogs at any "viable" traffic stop WITHOUT a warrant. I had the pleasure of seeing how this worked in March. It's so contrary to what our Constitution states, but they are allowed to do it now, so all bets are off. Expect Drug Dogs to be used on cars going to all festivals this year to some extent. Be prepared, and don't kid yourself. It's coming.

So, here goes. Bonnaroo will have Drug Dogs onsite as well as lots of undercover officers. It was only a matter of time before the open air drug market atmosphere brought the heat down, Now they have their new canine friends in tow ...legally. It's going to be like shooting fish in a barrel.

The culture war is ON, people. Wake up, play safe, be smart and remember that the government does not like you or your lifestyle. Information is the key. Stay informed and don't do stupid stuff that can cost you a lot of money and needless headaches.

Consolidating Power the old fashion way

TIME.com: Sidelining the CIA -- Jun. 13, 2005

GW oversees one of the most secretive presidencys in history and now he has basically told the director of the CIA "Don't callus, we'll call you". He does not want the CIA director at and National Security meetings unless asked to attend. MMMMmmmmm....ok. It seems the CIA is the guys along with the NSA (National Security Agency) are the ones who are at the frontline of national security...and now GW doesn't want the CIA director to attend. Great so now all the spook agencies are going to openly start screwing with each other to gain the president's favor. Geez.....

I will state this for all to understand my position clearly, "Bush is a megalomaniac idiot" and the miniscule pawn in his Daddy's plan for this new world order he touted so much when he was in office. The Carlyles Group are a bunch of power wielding globalists, bent on manipulating the world for the own good. They want a ruling class and a working class. Now I hear rumbling that he wants good old Jeb to run for president also. My God, so we have a corrupt monarchy in the country much like Saudi Arabia. And the part that kills me, is that it's the dumb, poor working slobs that keep voting these upperclass rulers into office. I for one, wished that some of these misinformed, ignorant fucks would turn off Fox News and actually read the real news about Bush, the Iraq war and his family's history. How could anyone vote for these criminals with a clear conscious.

Sorry for the rant....

Papers, Please!

UnRealID.com

On Tuesday, May 10th, 2005, the US Senate voted on the implementation of a national ID card system without ever debating the issue. The Real ID Act is nothing less than a Real National ID Act. The only thing left to the individual states is which pretty picture they will choose to put on the card: everything else will be controlled by Washington DC bureaucrats. --www.unrealid.com

Boy, everytime one these little gems get tacked on to an important bill it slides right on into law without a whimper from the American people. For the civil libertarians of us out here we scream a little louder and get ridculed more for being unpatriotic and paranoid. Bullshit!

Go check this site out.....we need to stick together on this one. This is so far beyond anything our forefathers would have ever dreamed of.

Speak your truth even if your voice shakes

Drowning Creek Studio, LLC

speak your truth even if your voice shakes
~~~ bumpersticker ~~~
Our Friend, Hobbit brightens our morning with a comment to greet the day. Many a day when I drag my butt into my poster dungeon I hit that email button and Hobbit's little comment puts a smile on face and eases me into the day.
Thanks Hobbit! We need all the smiles we can get these days.
"speak your truth even if your voice shakes" is especially fitting seeing as how we are dealing with a situtaion where we are pondering sueing the omnipotent "Government" for their foul up that could have easily put Judy's and I's lives in jeopardy. It will be an uphill battle with everything stacked against us except the truth.
The thing that bothers me the most is my tax dollars pay for people to do the government work they do, most badly. Most just seem to be drawing a check and doing as little as possible to do that. And now we got GW and his crew passing legislation to keep us from sueing government entities for any reason!
The reality is, I may not be able to sue the incompetant twits because they have "government immunity". We are investigating our options right now.
It's not a lawsuit about money, but prinicple. Some one needs to lose their jobs over this. I'm going to do my best to make sure this happens. You see, as a taxpayer, I'm their boss, and as far as I'm concerned they need to be fired. We understand that there have been several incidents with this particular lab. So ours was not an isolated incident.
Sorry for the morning rant so to put that smile back on your face here's a pic of Wavy playing with My friend Rick Ramirez's son at the Temple Ball show
General DCS Announcement
Hi folks,
I am posting this here, and a couple of other places.... hopefully most people will see it one of the places I post it.
It's a long story that I do not have time to recant at the moment, but Jeff, one of our cats, and I have been exposed to a rabid bat. This would not usually be an issue, but seems the cat never got a rabies shot, even though we thought it had. We are waiting to find out more details, but to make a long story short, the laboratory breached protocal and did not notify us for TWO WEEKS that the bat was rabid.
Anyway, we're trying desperately to get our work done, but we are behind on everything due to this. Also complicating matters is that we are trying to pack for Bonnaroo, and Wakarusa.
We appreciate the concern from everyone, and hope to report good news soon, althogh it looks like Sid (the cat) will have to be quarantined for 6 months.
Thanks,
Judy
