Hurricane Katrina

Just a notice to let folks know how this hurricane is affecting Jeff & myself....

Hurricane Katrina hit the hardest in the towns where I grew up and lived for 31 years. My Mother, brother, sis-in-law & nieces live in Long Beach where they are reporting everything for 3 blocks up from the beach is absolutely devastated. My family is OK, and waiting in North Alabama for word when they can get back in to see if their homes are still standing.

I've spent the last 2 days on the phone, and watching the news, so today I will be trying to catch up on packages, and emails. If you are waiting on either, and are reading this, please help me out by giving me a chance to write and get orders processed.

If anyone is so inclined, there are many agencies taking donations of money, clothes, blood, etc. There are agencies that are helping with the search and rescue that need monetary assistance. I'll list those here later.

Thnaks for the well wishes coming in, and for your patience and understanding while I try to keep the work flowing between phone calls and news reports.

Hank III Asheville Poster

My buddy Henry Wildonger got everything arranged with Hank III for me to do another poster for him. It has been quite a few years since the last one. It's for the Asheville show and we will be sending a nice stack to Hank's people to sell at the show.

Johnny supplied a wonderful chica as the centerpiece and I got to break out the coloring pens and have fun. I was quite proud of the way she turned out. Lettering is vintage 60's courtesy of myself.

Julian Beever's pavement drawings

click here for cool eyecandy: "Julian Beever"

For those of you not familiar with British artist Julian Beever's work, you're in for a treat. I was blown away the first time I saw his street chalk drawing...simply amazing. They are so 3D you just can't stop staring at them.

Good stuff.

Trey Anastasio Red Rocks Poster

I just shipped a fat package of posters off to Red Rocks for the upcoming Trey show this weekend.

There will be a very limited number available only about 200. The run was 275 prints

It's a 15x 22 inch-- 8 color screen print on Speckletone French paper, signed and numbered. The ink is laid on very thick and it has a great "red rock" textured feel to it. I was extremely pleased with the way the print looks.

We did retain a few copies for the gallery. Judy will decide how when these will be available a few weeks after the show. Sign up on the email list and sty tuned to the blog for more info.

Thanks to Trey and his management for the opportunity to work with him again.

18TH CANNABIS CUP IN AMSTERDAM

18TH CANNABIS CUP :: NOV 20-24 2005 :: AMSTERDAM

Some you already know that I'm doing the Cannabis Cup poster again this year. I will post a pic of it as soon as it's complete. The pic above is from the 1996 poster. The new poster is a nice visionary piece and will be an 8-10 color screenprint in an edition of 420...of course.

Judy and I will be attending the Cup this year as I will be a celebrity judge. A hard job but someone's got to do it! We are both very excited since two of my favorite artists will be performing, John Trudell and Patti Smith.

John Trudell has been a major player in Native American politics and activism since the 70's. He was the leader of AIM (American Indian Movement) and is being inducted into the Countercultrure Hall of Fame. This man is one of the most honorable people on this planet.

Patti Smith...geez, what can I say about this punk goddess. She redefined female singers and is one of the most prominent figures to have emerged from the NY punk scene as well as art/poetry scenes in the Village. I really love this woman and her work's message.

So this is my pitch, take a vacation and spend Thanksgiving with us in Amsterdam. It will be a blast and I promise, you will never be the same again after experiencing the gracious people and lifestyle of Amsterdam. It's our second time over and we can't wait.

Hope to see you there!

Sorry for the lapse in blog entries. Things at the studio have been hectic. We are moving things around, finishing the painting studio and wiring new electrical services, as well as, dodging thunderstorms on a daily basis.

DROWNING CREEK STUDIO UPDATE

We are updating the store software and will be adding numerous items & options to the existing items over the next couple of months. Please be patient with us, and sign up for our mail list if you would like to receive notices on when and what we will be adding. Coming soon will be a blotter art section, new giclee editions, litho posters, and decals. If you try to place an order and have problems, please email us so we can trouble shoot it!!

We are also rearranging the art department, and the other rooms in the studio to make things more efficient for us and our customers. We are working long hours and weekends to make the transition smooth. We appreciate everyone's continued patience with us while we get through these growing pains!
