A Little Late, but Better Than Never

As Hobbit and Whitney get settled into taking over the duties that have kept me from doing regular updates, the updates here will get more regular. Even though the updates are an important part of our business, they had to take a seat behind getting the work out the door on a deadline. Anyway, I missed putting up this announcement when it came out, and for that I apologize:

Friday, May 26th: Seppuku Tattoo's One Year Anniversary Party

Special Guest Jeff Wood.

Jeff Wood is a vanguard concert poster artist, having created visual eye candy in the form of screen printed poster art, album covers, & collectables for bands like 311, The Dead, The Allman Brothers, Audioslave, Phish, Dave Matthews, Green Day, Patti Smith, Hank Williams 3, Reverend Horton Heat, Widespread Panic, The Black Crows, PJ Harvey, Les Claypool, Flogging Molly, and countless others. His work for High Times magazine has included several magazine covers, plus posters for the prestigious Cannabis Cup held annually in Amsterdam, where Jeff presides as a celebrity judge.
After decades of service to clients that ranged from the WWF to Harley Davidson, Jeff opened his own print house, the Drowning Creek Studio, in Commerce, GA. Build in a refurbished slaughterhouse, Jeff's work became the pinnacle of fine art printing, his techniques were the first to mesh computers and screen printing together, his work and magazine articles on his progress inspiring an entire generation to enter into the field, and Jeff has published & curated work of artists such as Coop, Frank Kozik, Alan Forbes, Stanley Mouse, Mark Mothersburg, Rich Biffle, Mikio Kennedy, Jermaine Rogers, Darren Grealish, Jeral Tidwell, Dave Gink, Jason Goad, James Decker, Ralph Waters, Dave Crossland, Hoffa, Durb Morrison, Johnny Thief and Dethrone.
Drowning Creek has taken a number of awards, including the Independent Music Awards Best Band/Venue Poster for his String Cheese Incident and Government Mule posters, has done video posters for MTV2, and has been shown in Hard Rock Cafes globally, and in galleries from Germany to Australia. The body of work appears prominently in a number of best selling books, including the Art of Modern Rock: The Poster Explosion, Schwag, Electric Frankenstein, Rocking In Time, and in magazines such as High Times, Spin, Giant, Metal Hammer, and Relics.
Jeff will be the special guest at the Drowning Creek Art Gallery, a low brow art collection of DCS work displayed for the first time in a brick and mortar storefront, located inside Seppuku Tattoo. Owners Johnny Thief and Matt Lukesh invited Jeff for their One Year Anniversary Party, celebrating their first year of raising the bar on canvas, paper and, of course, on skin, bringing a new level of excellence to these so called low brow arts for the first time to Savannah.
Jeff will be on hand to meet guests and sign posters, books and collectables, including a special limited edition screen print to commemorate the event. Live music will be provided by local DJs, and food and cocktails served all night.

Congratulations to Johnny and Matt for making a landmark one year in their new shop!! Jeff and I are proud to be associated with Seppuku.

Jeff is in Savannah tonight for the festivities. Stop in and see the boys if you are in the area.

Bring the Mutha Effin' Ruckus!!!!

That's right, it's ON!! We've been bustin' booty here at the Creek to get everything ready for our 2 week par-tay tour to Lawrence, KS back to Manchester, TN, and I do believe we have outdone ourselves on the booth this year. We will have many items never available before and Jeff even did some remarqueing on a few posters. We have a few surprises that we're trying to develop before we leave, so be sure to stop by our tent to see the new stuff. Oh yeah, the pic above is just a little teaser piece of our Wakarusa print. You'll have to be at Wakarusa to get the real deal.....

Where to Find The Poster Village at Wakarusa

Got the good word that we will be located next to The Porch, and across the street from the Campground Stage for our weekend at Wakarusa!! Yay!! The Porch is described as follows:
All new at Wakarusa this year is our very own coffee house and beer garden called the Porch (as in "front porch"). The Porch is operated by a very fine group dedicated to furthering music among youth called the Americana Music Academy. The Porch Stage will be host to various professional and amateur acoustic performers throughout the festival. It's also the best place to pull up a hammock, picnic table or adirondack chair with a cold Fat Tire and just watch and meet other Wakarusians. The Porch will be located directly across the street from the Campground Stage in the old home of the General Store.

We're so excited about our location, and getting to be down near the campgrounds this year!! Look for our young 'uns passing out discount coupons and then come get some coffee or a cold brew & spend some time checking out the art. Besides Drowning Creek, Gary Houston of Voodoo Catbox, Michael Everett, & Daniel Katra of Mouse Studios will be there displaying artwork.

Sounds like a party to me.....

What you say? Another Interview?

Jeff Wood, and Drowning Creek Studio were amongst those interviewed for MESH COUNT magazine, Issue #2 published earlier this year. We're not sure how Peter, the principal of MC, does it all, but he's created a wonderful publication for the screen printing community. There have been 2 issues to date, with the last being debuted at Flatstock 8 in Austin, TX this past March. Unfortunately, we were unable to attend, but Peter graciously sent us copies. Thanks, Peter!! We love it!!

Interviews, and Accolades

Michael Goldstein of Rock Pop Gallery took on interviewing the three winners of the graphics categories in this past year's Independent Music Awards. Get a cup of coffee, and take a break while jumping over to the Rock Pop Gallery web site to read the interview-done-panel-style with Jeff Wood, principal at Drowning Creek Studios (Athens, GA), who won the IMA award for Best Band/Venue Poster for their poster for The String Cheese Incident‰¥ús Fall Tour 2004; Shawn Brice, musician and, in this case, the creative director and photographer for Bloodwire‰¥ús IMA Award-winning photograph for his record titled ‰¥þTransformation‰¥ÿ, and Sara Cumings, graphic artist for LA‰¥ús SMOG Design and winner (along with Art Director John Heiden) of this year‰¥ús IMA award for Best Album Packaging for her innovative design for Peter Walker‰¥ús ‰¥þLanded‰¥ÿ album for Dangerbird Records.

New Posters To Go........

OK, so we cancelled the last release, but we're committed to the next. This coming weekend, we will release several posters for consumption: Keller Williams, New Monsoon, Gomez, and the Da'mage series. And there will be a very special print that we can't name yet....

We'll send an email to the mailing list when the posters are up. This will be the last release we do before we leave for Wakarusa & Bonnaroo.
